Dton Mai Yai tree |
 In northern part of Koh Kood, near the village Ban Chum Phon, 500 years old maka tree stands , known to local peoples under the name Dton Maai Yai. The height of the giant who was become overgrown with lianes and epiphits, reaches more than 35 meters. To reach a tree from village Ban Chum Phon, use the track approximately one kilometer, through a forest and rubber plantations. If not want to lose the way, in the best way to use navigator or to employ whom or from local residents.

 The first residents on Koh Kood were Thai and Cambodia, who have run away from Thai territory when the Frenchmen have occupied the city of Padzhantakiri (Padjantakiri) in 1904г. The most old community on island - Klong Mad village, which inhabitants still earn for a life cultivation of rubber trees, coconuts and basically fishing.

 About 100 years ago, the majority of people on Koh Kut, lived due to gathering and processing of cocoes.
In due course, coconut palm, have replaced with plantations of a rubber tree, coconut manufacture began to fall into decay. People have turned the looks to rubber trees, because of the good price for rubber which that raised fell, and it was always more favourable, than coconuts. When the rubber prices fell downwards, locals rooted out rubber trees and instead of it started to raise cocoes which fructified during all year, as against the rubber which was not giving rubbers during a rainy season.
Anyhow, both branches industry today became the basic business for people living on island. |
