For your information: Koh Lanta is administratively belongs to Krabi province and located south-east of Ao Nang. The place is unique in its culture and customs and inhabited by local ethnic groups - muslims, chinese and sea gypsies. Despite the fact that some local people earn a living from tourism, livelihoods, many still rely on agriculture, shrimp, fish and work on rubber plantations.
Today, this tropical island is steadily developing and you will easily find ATMs, mini-markets and a good international restaurants located in most major hotels on the island, which even has an official post office in Baan Saladan and Koh Lanta Old town in the south-eastern corner of the island.

Getting Around |
The island boasts a favorable road network allowing you to cross Lanta from north to south for approximately 40 minutes. Taxi, (resembling a motorbike with a sidecar) is also available on the pier in Baan Saladan and around the island. To stop a taxi just need to lift up the thumb. In addition tricycle vehicles the island serve passengers by songteo. The price for trip depends on the distance and usually starts from 50 Bath from one beach to the next one. A car with driver is also available to rent for the whole day to explore the entire island. Price starts from 1200 Bath.
On Koh Lanta is easy and affordable to rent a motorbike. This should be done immediately upon arrival on the island in Baan Saladan. The price of rent motorbike from 200-250 Bath/day depending on season and model of motorbike. If you hire for a week or more the price drops to 150 Bath per day. Renting a car will cost you 1200 Bath/day and above. The bicycle is also a good way to travel. Bicycle rental is possible on many popular beaches of the island. Rental price: 20 Bathт/h; 70 Bath/half day; 120 Bat/day;
Last and not least important type of public transport is a long-tailed boats that can be rented for any occasion including a tour, fishing or snorkeling. The price will depend on distance and time of rental.

On Koh Lanta in Baan Saladan there are several commercial banks which have the currency exchange on the popular beaches of the island. ATMs can be found in the mini-marts 7/11 and other places of Koh Lanta.
There are hospitals on the island including private medical clinic in Klong Dao beach and the dentist clinics.
In all places Koh Lanta steadily works mobile (3G) and wi-fi services are available in every hotel, restaurant or bar. |
