Koh Chang Beaches Guide
|
Koh Chang East coast is the least developed part of the island. But thanks to the new road tourism slowly starts to explore this picturesque area. The coast is very flat and partially overgrown with mangrove trees. Accessible beaches heavily stone but there is also a small, sandy beach with a
coarse
red sand. During low tide the beaches turned into a swampy bays. Those who went on the road to the south in the direction Salak Phet Bay or Long beach, appreciated the beauty of this area. All villages are located here along the main road and only up to two villages: Ban Khlong Rakam village and Ban Khlong Hin Kong village should be reached by boat.
Ko Chang east coast not depicted in detail on the tourist maps. There are only a few places worthy of attention and accommodation, because the lack of good sandy beaches, shops, restaurants, bars, etc., means that the found a place where you really want to get away from it all.
Eastern coast stretches 30 kilometres of tarmac road, to ferry pier to the North-East to Salakphet ba, located in the South of Koh Chang island. For anyone who never saw a slender rows of palm trees along the shore, the road will undoubtedly cause bouts of excitement. But, for the sophisticated traveller, green-red landscape of the middle level (a couple of reddish sandy shores, a few hills, two villages) with uniform road and the lack of anything else than for example a waterfall or viewpoint, is not a particularly exciting trip.
After Koh Chang Ferry pier will remain behind you, the road gradually starts to go around the coast, passing by the naval pier, where sometimes moored warships and beachfront Mayuree Pink Resort named in honor of the favorite color of the mother, the owner of the resort. Notice it is not possible, usually pink color immediately catches the eye even if it is applied to buildings not located in the best place. Further down the road you will find Centrepoint Pier, the second cargo pier on the island, and another 400 meters then another. Now the old pier occupied, well-equipped sports club Chang Gym. For all who consider themselves "bullies" are weekly and monthly passes to visit. |

Koh Chang East coast Hotels |
|
Three small hotels - Funky Hut, The Souk and Chanakarn Resort, located at a slight distance from each other, are the best thing that you can discover on the red sandy beaches of the East coast. If you want to sunbathe by the pool, head to Funky Hut, if you like to drink, and then find yourself in a 'chill out' move in The Souk, but if you are in a noisy Thai company or a family, come to Chanakarn, where at all possible to divide the single bungalows.

Koh Chang East Coast Overview |
|
Further along the road is an improvised promenade featuring a concrete shore with benches separated by the newly planted trees. Have to wait until they grow up then that would be hiding in the shade from the scorching heat. A few kilometres further in Suan Sam Chan resort offers excellent accommodation for the price of 1,000 - 1,200 Bath/night per Bungalow which if it were on the opposite side of the island, would cost twice as much. |

Near a small Dan Mai fishing village is Koh Chang municipality, then on the main access road will remain behind the main island hospital. Here should be contacted "in case", if you do not have medical insurance. Unlike medical institutions on west coast, this is not a very high price. In village centre is KohChang police department, firefighters and the building of the local government. A place for a fire bell selected is not casual, since in the event of a fire, the machine can reach 90% of the places situated on the island for 35-40 min. |

If you follow a small track starts opposite the police next to the pier, you can pass through a fishing village. Then, after temple the first house on the right at the intersection, not that other as a sewing co-op, where I sew and sell inexpensive shirts and t-shirts. Usually the goods are not on display and they have no windows and all products are stored in boxes. According to this if be tempted to apply visit there and buy unique t-shirt for only 150 Bath, ask to see the goods so to speak - face.
Pier in the village, a few years ago was the main island and it was used for freight transport. At the beginning of the pier is a good seafood restaurant. Here now, for planting\disembarkation of passengers, twice a day moored speed boats from the mainland to Koh Mak. Walk to the end of the pier and you'll be rewarded with magnificent views of the sea and the village. From this point perfectly clear low pagoda and it brings local residents luck, protecting them from evil spirits. |
|
Waterfalls on the island is a small, some are free to visit, like for example Klong Nonsi waterfall located in front of Dan Mai. For viewing other, Than Mayom falls larger in size and located a short ride to the south, asking 200 Bath as for visiting Marine National Park. Even the locals here and try not to miss its benefits, taking visitors on 20 Bath, parking motorbike on their land. Typically, the waterfalls are worth a visit after a rainy season. |
|
Right after Than Mayom falls if you move further south near rocky shore you will see the pier passing away at sea, and you can even ride by motorbike to the end. Here's a great place for fishing and viewing the most part of Koh Chang East coast. When this pier took a random passengers wishing to visit the Than Mayom waterfall, the former in those days the only tourist attraction in Koh Chang island. A few abandoned bungalows further prove the popularity of the last places among Thai tourists, before the construction of roads on the west coast. |

To the east around almost empty beach. Small sandy beaches, framed by tall palm trees, interspersed stone capes and mangroves. In only one in this place resort, there is even a special shooting range. Shoot costs: 65 Bath/ a shot in depend from the type of weapon. Bungalow offered from 400 Bath/night. |

Further to the south begin coconut and rubber plantations, few ponds for shrimp farming and inexpensive Thai restaurants. Actually in all places have a menu in English. Small shops in this part of the island also offer a ripe Durian and Jackfruit and chips made from a unique island technology and does not transmit odour. Known and the island's only medical Spa Koh Chang resort was opened in late 2006. The road to the entrance starts right before the turn to Salak Khok. Usually there are guests who have problems with gastrointestinal tract or who wish to lose weight quickly. The hotel restaurant is exclusively vegetarian.
In conclusion I would like to add that any resident interested in the purchase of land for the house in Koh Chang needs with optimism to consider the Island's East coast. Of course is not quite the stunning scenery, but very quiet, convenient infrastructure and there is still the opportunity to buy small plots of land along the shoreline. Besides, in the East live large and happy family of local residents, in contrast to western beaches filled with immigrants from Cambodia and not watching the state of the environment of the island. |
