Buddhist Meditation Centre in Koh Phangan
|
Wat Phu Khao Noi (or Small Mountain Temple) is primarily known due to the fact that it is the oldest temple and the Buddhist Meditation Centre in Koh Phangan. Located on a small hill not far from Wat Ampawa, just 3 km North of Thongsala pier, Wat Phu Khao Noi features a few old buildings and recently renovated beautiful chedis as well as exquisite surrounding views. Approximately founded in Rattanakosin Period, Phu Khao Noi Temple was registred by Fine Arts Department for a historical site at September, 1997. The important historical artifact is a pagoda in castle style which is used to maintain the Lord Buddha's lyrics situated on a large base and surrounded by 8 groups of smaller pagodas: octagonal, bell-shaped, pagodas built in twelwe-indented corners, pagodas in castle style and Burmeses's indeted chedi. In the old ubosot, a Buddha image in attitude of subduing Mara, made of stucco covered with lacquer, is situated on the plaster base. The old ubosot (main hall) was currently covered by a new one.

The name of Wat Phu Kao Noi means “The temple of the small mountain”. An unique spirit of tranquility and serenity inside an alluring Buddhist sanctuary with lots of interesting details of design that you not seen anywhere else on this island makes it a great place for meditation and various Buddhist ceremonies. It is nice and just think, walking around the Buddha Image in white structure of ubosot, and just to stay in silence and solitude. |

Wat Wat Phu Kao Noi Monastery - the important center of studying of the Buddhism and Vipassana meditation in Koh Phangan. The Temple Supports training for Thai kids whilst on vacation to go there and practice becoming a monk, to study about buddhism. Vipassana based on methods taught by Mahasi Sayadaw. Though the basic program is offered in Thai language, here give some lessons by english, and the temple becomes popular place for farangs where is possible to be trained in bases vipassana in Thai style. |

The head monk is fluent in English, and if you want to chat on the highest themes - come, preferably in the afternoon. Visit Wat Phu Khao Noi allows you not only to admire specimens of Buddhist architecture, but also enjoy one of the most impressive panoramic views of the southern part of Koh Phangan island. |
